Gary and Sandy Cake-First Teaching

Gary and Sandy cake
9/21/10
Gary Romans 12:6 Let him who prophesies do so according to his faith-
There is always a gap between receiving and delivering a word. Between revelation and engagement. That gap is always bridged by faith. Just being on the receiving end is a blessing, but you won’t learn from it.
Its not a thing where the gap gets smaller as you mature, because the faith required doesn’t decrease. If anything, it gets bigger. Don’t think that after 20 years, the faith won’t be required.
To trust the gift within me, is to trust God himself, who gave it to me. We need to Learn to not just fly home on the wonderful word from the Lord, but become the pilot.
Always give gifts openhandedly. Openhandedly with confidence. Not “thus saith the Lord”, or “well, geez, I may have a word, I think”. You may agonize over it, and  don’t come to the place where you don’t. That is part of caring.  But deliver it openhandedly with confidence.
God wants us to relate to him out of our heart. Our soul isn’t a bad thing. He wants to enjoy us.

Sandy- Humility - its good to be happy. Eph. 2:11 He makes a way when there seems to be no way at all. There’s nothing too small that God doesn’t care about. He wants us to take it to Him. If we ask Him, He is so into the details of our lives.
Today is what you have, live in today- if you wait, just ‘try to get through’, then, yeah you will get there, but you will have missed some of what God has given us. Ask yourself, God, what do you want for me, what are you thinking of me?
Humility is important on things… So ask, how does it affect, relationships- frustrated, annoyed? How do you approach it from a standpoint of humility?
Pro. 11.2 With humility comes wisdom.
1 Pet. 5.5 Clothe yourselves with humility… God gives grace to the humble.
God will find the places in you, where you need His intervention and touch them; it will make you wanna run away. Do you care enough for others to work through these things? We ask, “how can we do that?” He asks, “how can we not do that?”
Head lice does not mix with a Sandy Cake.
The very little things that freak you out, God will minister to. You will have to say ok, give it over to Him. Bu humble, surrender. Getting me out of the way and He will use it for others.
Matt. 23.12 Whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Your gifts will not come out unless you give them to God.

Gary - Humility
Be clothed in humility, so it’s something you should put on. So how do you do that? You’re very gifted and talented, so does that mean we deny that? NO! But how do we clothe ourselves with humility?
Phil. 2.5-8 Have the mind in you which was in Christ Jesus. To be formed to the image of Christ, we must have the mind. It’s a command. Now, Paul doesn’t juxtaposition law and grace, he does it with law and faith. We erase the issue of commands; those who lived by the law were saved by grace because no one could live by the law. So for here, if you don’t have the mind, we’re not being obedient. We have to have the mind of Christ.
6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, / didn’t think it robbery to have equality with God.  It wasn’t illegal for Him to introduce himself as the son of God. But He didn’t. Its not, ‘if you got it flaunt it’. He didn’t need to say it. It would be dishonoring to God to not acknowledge the gifts He’s given. We don’t dishonor our heritage, our parents. He had every right to acknowledge that He was the son of God, but He didn’t have to all the time.
7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. He stamped void on His chest. It had to do with the way He thought about Himself, He had made the decision. Putting the void stamp doesn’t mean not acknowledging our gifts, but it means not thinking about ourselves all the time. Its NOT saying I don’t have any gifts.
8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself  and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!  He looked like a man, and became a servant. Original verbs- He re-arranged the parts of Himself… To put on humility, He re-arranged his parts, humility was already part of Him, so was son of God, and all other sort of things. But he put humility and servant up front. Its possible to put on humility without saying I’m dumb, fat and ugly.
 Gary - Recent church history.
Never curse your heritage. Everything that is, comes from something that was before. The curse is: always re-inventing the wheel.
The 50’s were ‘idealistic’; the style of church was born in the 40’s. It was the center of culture. The clergy was on top of the list of respected professions. They lived in the shadow of WW2.
The 60’s had the drug culture come into the light. It was a time of social upheaval. Kennedy assassinated, moon landing. Spiritually, they began to destroy the church of the 40’s and the 50’s because of the irrelevance of it - without respect.
The 70’s had the whole hippie experience. Charismatic renewal happened. A real revitalization; Discipleship began, home groups. Vietnam War finally ended.
The 80’s - the vineyard movement changed the way we worship. John Wimber, the prophetic movement, the apostolic. The model of church that the Cake’s have tried to plant is the models that came out of the 70’s and 80’s. We need to be merciful as we change the church.
The 90’s . We were born. Lol. All that happened through the 90’s was the building up of the 70’s and 80’s model of church.
2000- it has begun to crumble. The model of church is going to be changed. We are in the shadow of the millennial shift. Sept. 11 changed our entire view of the worlds. Economic crisis of 2009. The 70’s and 80’s church will not work now. Its up to us to discover what will. We have to discover the call on our lives for this year, but also, for our life to discover the new church. Not re-building the nation, but building The Kingdom.
In our 40’s we will have to take on leadership. We are in the decade of social upheaval. We have ten year’s – we don’t have to come up with it in ten minutes. But we need to be intentional about it. This year will determine.
History is cyclical. The church is going through 7th cycle. Azusa Street was 6th. Don’t slide into legalism. The cycle may be unavoidable, but we can avoid it in our lives. Avoid movements-crystallized dogmas. Stay in the move of God. Stay flexible. Re-build. To be generation changers, we need to be able to build on the last model. Pick up the baton. Mix the wisdom of the older generation with the zeal of ours- Don't disregard.
